Copper is easily alloyed with other metals. It is generally divided into red copper, bronze, brass and cupronickel.
Red Copper
Pure copper is in red color, but not all red copper is pure copper, because sometimes people will add some deoxygenation elements.or other elements to improve its quality and function. Its copper content is over 99%, melting point is 1083 ℃ and density is 8.9 g/cm³.
It is of high ductility, malleability, thermal and electrical conductivity. However, the light impurities has great effect on thermal and electrical conductivity. Therefore, every year, half amount of red copper will be refined to be pure copper, then used in electrical industry. Bronze
Generally speaking, bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. The content of tin is usually above 3%. Compared with red copper, bronze is of high intensity, low melting point, good castability, anti-friction and bright color . It is also harder than iron and pure copper, therefore it is very suitable for casting various utensils, machinery parts, bearing, gear, etc.
Bronze is the earliest copper alloy used in history. And from early days, people have known different percentage of copper, tin or other elements like zinc and manganese will meet different purpose. For example, bronze chime has relatively high tin content, thus making a sonorous sound when it is struck. Zinc can improve hardness, so bearing usually contain a spot of zinc.
Brass
Brass consist of copper and zinc. It is usually used in manufacturing valve, water pipe, internal and external connecting pipe of air conditioner, radiator, etc. Brass can be generally divided into common brass and special brass. Common brass is the alloy of copper and zinc, which has been mentioned above. The content of zinc in brass changes greatly, which lead to the diversification of its tissue at room temperature.,thus causing different function. Special brass is adding some other elements into the common brass. The often-added elements are lead, tin, aluminum,manganese, etc. The purpose of this way is for improving tensile strength and weldability.

A Brief Introduction of Different Cables

There are generally two kinds of cables: armored cable and non-metallic cable, that is, AC cable and NM cable. What are they and their difference?

Armored cable is a type of power-conducting cable that is covered in a metal sheath. In most cases, it consists of a bundle of wires covered in a metal tube, which may be covered in a plastic insulation layer. The various types of metal-covered cable are made in a similar fashion. At the core of the cable is a wire bundle. There are three basic types of metal-covered cable; all are referred to as armored cable.

BX is one of the earliest types of electrical cable developed for both residential and commercial uses in the early part of the 20th century. It is a collection of plastic-coated insulated wires (typically 14- or 12-gauge), bundled together and protected by a ribbon-like metal sheathing. Like any other cable, if the armor is nicked, cut, or shredded, the wires inside can be compromised. BX's armor, while much stronger than NM's vinyl, can still be pierced by a determined and well-placed nail or screw.

When electrical wiring needs extra protection, metal-clad (MC) cable is a great solution, and is often required by electrical codes. Metal-clad cable comes in several varieties, but the type you’ll find at most home centers is three insulated wires (two circuit conductors and a green equipment grounding conductor) protected by a flexible armor usually made from aluminum. MC cable is identified by the gauge of the wire, not the diameter of the armor. The most common sizes are 14 gauge, 12 gauge and 10 gauge. It offers protection from fire, vibration, gnawing pests and physical harm in general.

The content of copper in lithosphere is about 0.01%. In some copper mines, the percentage is up to 3%-5%. Copper in nature usually exists in the form of compounds. In 2014, USGS did an evaluation for the global copper ore deposit, finding that the copper content in those explored copper mineral is about 2.1 billion tons and 3.5 billion in pending exploration.

According to the data of USGS in 2015, global copper reserve is about 0.7billion tons. Of them, Chile owns 209 million tons;Australia, 93 million;Peru, 68 million; America, 35 million; Mexico, 38 million; China, 30 million; Russia, 30 million; Indonesia, 25 million; Poland, 26 million, Zambia, 20 million; Congo (gold), 20 million; Canada 11 million; Kazakhstan, 60 million; the rest all countries, 90 million.

From the above data, we can see that copper resource is mainly distributed in those regions, North America, Latin America, and Central Africa. As for countries, copper resource mainly exists in those countries, Chile, America, Zambia, Russia and Peru. Among them, Chile has the richest copper resources, occupying29.86% of the global storage. At the same time, Chile is the world’s largest copper producer and exporter.

How to Recycle an Old Air Conditioner

Air conditioners are one of the common scrap items during the warmer month. With a wide variety of materials like copper, aluminum, generators, wires, gold, etc., any scrappers from beginners to advanced ones can benefit from ac recycling.

For air conditioner disposal, regardless of type, all contain some form of cooling refrigerant. As there are federal or state/province regulations as to disposal of these types of appliances, before you dispose of it in a landfill, recycle or trash bin, call your local sanitation department to find out if it needs to be prepared before it can be discarded. In some cases, they will have a list of places where you will be able to return your air conditioner. Some stores that sell new models will take you old one as a courtesy to you. In other cases, you may need to have a technician who can remove the coolant from the unit. You can then recycle the unit through most recycling centers that do appliance recycling.  

When recycling an air conditioner, it is best to carefully take it apart. Although it takes some time, for the money you can make selling the parts as scrap, it is worth doing so. Besides those little parts like copper wire, copper tube, screws, electric motor and copper/aluminum radiator are more sought after by scrappers. Additionally many of the modern window and central air units have digital displays, which means that they have a motherboard within them that contains a small amount of gold that you can scrap.  Once you can see the inside of the air conditioner, you should see a few things including one or two radiators, sealed unit, electric motor, etc. Towards the back of the air conditioner, you should see a fan and electric motor attached that can be moved. You can use some tool like screwdriver to detach the electric copper motor from the fan and put that in a separate pile. It will be quicker to scrap the whole thing, or you can open it to remove copper wire.

When removing the scrap radiator from the ac unit, you will usually see a smaller one in the front and a larger one towards the back.After the radiator is removed, it needs to be cleaned before it can be sold or recycled. The steel contamination must be removed from the copper and aluminum and this can be done by simply cutting the steel off using a circular saw. After doing that all, you have a clean piece of aluminum/copper fin which will get you about 15-20% more at the scrap yard compare to leaving the steel on. At the same time, it is also a good thing for scrap yard owners to process. These radiators can be directly processed by radiator recycling machine, that is,AC Copper and Aluminum separator. Within seconds, copper pipes and aluminum fin will be discharged separately. And copper pipe will keep complete, while aluminum fin will be a little broken.
